The administration – a brief overview
When you first log into the administration (formerly called the backend), you will be asked whether you want to install additional content.

This gives you the option of setting up demo data, payment methods such as PayPal or other plugins. What is noticeable at first glance is the modern design.

The dashboard appears friendly, bright, clear and offers space for a variety of statistics. The menu has been placed on the left side instead of in the header area and can be minimized.

The different colors of the categories make it possible to find your way around more quickly. But the new system not only looks chic, it also impresses with better usability and easier maintenance.

Shopware 6 release
With Shopware 6, premium plugins will no longer be available in the future. Many functions from the Shopware 5 plugins will now be available directly in the Professional Edition.

Currently, over 1,000 plugins are being developed as Symfony bundles. For developers, the new system means a completely new training process, which is why it can be assumed that the first shops will be rather small.

Due to the lack of familiar plugins and functions, shops cannot currently be customized to a great extent. However, this will change over time.

There is no update from Shopware 5 to 6, but migration of certain data is possible. Unlike before, the plugin must be installed in both shops - a one-click migration is no longer possible.

So far, the Developer Edition (6.0 Early Access 2) has been released to give you an initial insight and possibly to be able to program and test your own extensions.

The release of the productive version 6.1 was originally scheduled for December 2019, but will most likely be postponed to January 2020.

From the time of release, the usual update cycle of 6 to 8 weeks will then start. Shopware 5 will continue to receive regular updates including new features until July 2021.

Bug fixes will be made available until July 2023 and security updates until July 2024.
