Common Misconceptions About Storytelling

Post by Maksudasm »

Beginning, middle, and end are not storytelling. Storytelling is often misdefined. In essence, yes, everything has these three components. But that description doesn’t give a clear definition. A flight, a visit to the dentist, a song — all of these things have a beginning, middle, and end. But that’s not storytelling. These things may be the basis for a story, but they are not stories in themselves. Forget about it. Storytelling is not a joke.

Another misconception about storytelling is that it is something that happened recently. But it is more likely to be a funny story if there is no conflict and no crisis, and then the conflict is resolved, causing a profound change in the hero.

We tell each other jokes all the time: "I was at the drugstore and guess who I met? My old college friend John." It's a joke, but it's not storytelling.

Let's dig deeper and get to papua new guinea email list the bottom of this with the following story as an example.

"I recently met a beautiful girl at a party. I shouldn't have been there because the owner of the house can't stand me. But the girl was beautiful."

This is an example of a joke that can be made into storytelling:

"Recently, I saw a beautiful girl at a party. I felt sympathy at first sight, and she secretly fell in love with me too. But when I learned her name, I realized that she was from the family of my enemies. Despite this, we secretly got married. And the next day, I met a group of my enemies at the market, a fight broke out between us, and I killed one of them. Now I have fled the city, and my wife is being forced to marry another."

This is the story of Romeo and Juliet. Maybe you know how it continued? Juliet took poison to pretend to be dead and not to marry another man. Romeo did not receive a timely message from his beloved, saw her dead and committed suicide. Juliet woke up, saw Romeo dead and killed herself too. This is a vivid example of tragedy, a story that still stirs people's emotions centuries later.

And one more thing. Many people think of storytelling as simple, basic fairy tales with a happy ending that are told to children. That's why storytelling often evokes associations with cute and sometimes silly stories. But they often tell about the dark human soul, and therefore they need to be appreciated.
