Talk about the numbers of investing in SEO

No boss is going to greenlight a project that’s unlikely to yield a return on their investment, so get ahead of that. If you’ve just listed a bunch of resources, they’re likely to ask, “How much will all this cost?” It’s your time to answer that question convincingly.

Set the price for all the resources you just talked about in a spreadsheet. This is simple enough for SEO tools and software, as most of them have public pricing pages, so just choose the right plan for your business.

UpWork has some good data for employees and freelancers, Google average salaries or standard chief vp compliance email list hourly rates on freelance websites:

Based on this, you can make your final spreadsheet look like this:

While this might be a good start, it doesn’t tell your boss anything about ROI (return on investment), which is what matters. Unfortunately, this is harder to calculate than it sounds; because your SEO efforts will continue to pay off long after the initial project is over.

For that reason, it makes more sense to create a “break even” chart, which shows how long it will take to recoup your SEO investment.

For example, let’s say your projected cost is $5,127 per month. Because SEO takes time, let’s be a little pessimistic and assume there will be no increase in revenue for the first six months, before gradually increasing to $40,000 and eliminating the need to spend on advertising by month twelve.
