Melissa McClary Davis, Founder and CEO of Wise Digital Marketing, shares her valuable insights and experiences on how she has navigated the changing marketing landscape for 30 years, working with major brands and now heading up her own digital marketing agency people.

Early career and experience
Melissa’s marketing journey began when she attended Northwestern University’s prestigious Kellogg School of Management. Her educational background has opened doors for her to work with many well-known Fortune 500 companies such as Coca-Cola, AT&T, State Farm, General Motors, Hallmark Cards, Best Buy, Facebook, Instagram, and many more.

Her early career included consulting, working for brand clients and agency roles. Consulting work includes 6-12 month projects helping brands refresh their marketing. On the client side, Melissa can see the long-term impact of her marketing efforts. Agency work involves selling ideas to clients, which the client may reject, whereas consulting work often involves clients implementing Melissa's suggestions.

While Melissa's work was rewarding, she ultimately felt constrained by working for a major brand, where her efforts would have only a negligible impact on the brand's bottom line. She wants to work with clients so she can be more effective. This realization, combined with a desire for more freedom and the ability to choose her own clients, led her to start her own digital marketing company.
