Europe's push to create a responsible, ethical and sustainable influencer marketing industry is gaining momentum as the Netherlands becomes the latest country to launch a responsible influencer certification programme for content creators.

The Netherlands has become the second European country to create a training and certification course for influencers covering responsible and ethical advertising on social media.

Inspired by the Responsible Influencer Certificate launched in France in 2020, the Dutch certification program 'Certified by influencerregels.com ' aims to raise awareness among content creators about advertising rules and ethical practices regarding labeling posts and consumer protection.

The Dutch initiative includes a website: influencerregels.com , which provides comprehensive information on Dutch advertising legislation regarding brand collaborations with influencers.

Influencerregels.com describes the Dutch legal and regulatory environment for labeling content across all social media platforms and content formats, as well as for paid, gifted, or affiliate types of collaborations. It also describes specific advertising laws for creators with more than 500K followers on Instagram, YouTube, and TikTok.

Led by industry association Data-Driven Marketing Association (DDMA) in design directors managers email lists collaboration with Dutch advertising self-regulatory organisation Stichting Reclame Code (SRC) and the Dutch Media Authority , the Dutch initiative is particularly notable for the support received from major market players such as Nestlé, Unilever, L'Oréal, Heineken and Coca-Cola, among others.

"As the world's fourth largest advertiser and a true believer in influencer marketing, we at L'Oréal Netherlands are incredibly proud to support the new 'Certified by influencerregels.com' initiative," Marc Duquesnoy, CDMO of L'Oréal Benelux, wrote on LinkedIn.
"An industry initiative through which influencers and creators can demonstrate their knowledge of all laws and regulations relating to influencer marketing. Together, we are working towards a more transparent and professional influencer industry that not only thrives, but is also ethically responsible."
