With the money we earned we finally fixed, equipped and prepared our boat , Shibumi .

It is a boat from the 80s that we purchased in 2016. It had been ukraine consumer mobile number list sitting in a shipyard in Greece for years and was just waiting for us.

Before lifting the anchor, however, there was still much to do.

And, most importantly, nothing could have prepared us for what was to come…

Doubt in the head, certainty in the heart: the journey begins
In 2020 , behind schedule, we brought Shibumi from Greece to a construction site on the Magra river in Liguria, dodging the pandemic and the slowdowns caused by it.

My husband redid all the electrical and plumbing. We installed: solar panels and a watermaker, to be sustainable and to be energy independent .

Limiting costs remained a mantra wherever we had the possibility.

We requested homeschooling for our children and a year's leave of absence .

We had planned everything that could be planned: we would cross the Mediterranean and, once outside the Pillars of Hercules, we would reach the Canary Islands, then Cape Verde and from there cross over to Central America.

All by February 2021 .

So in October 2020 we cast off. So Capraia, Corsica, Sardinia, Balearics…

In January, the race against time began to catch the trade winds (the leading winds needed to cross the Atlantic) .

The winter storms, however, slowed us down considerably. So much so that we were forced to enter the port of Formentera .
