But back to my first thought: Suppose I were a burglar, how would I handle it?

I am not a burglar, but if I were one, I would really be one of the better ones. And not so much because I am very good at pinball, or in some other way could do a 'crack'. But it would mainly be because I understand how to make smart use of all the online data and information that is spread via social media by sloppy and inattentive Dutch people. And a real burglar 2.0, that would be me.

It's holiday time and millions of Dutch people will be heading to their holiday destination in the coming months. Nothing is more fun than sharing holiday fun and moments of 'awesomeness' on your social networks. Taking lots of photos and posting them publicly on the internet is the most normal thing in the world. And the more people see it, the better.

Open internet
I see it a lot too. For example, I know that my study friend Tijmen (living at latvia phone number list Kattegat 1A Groningen) is on holiday in Switzerland until 21 July and Facebook friend Marieke (living at Groenendaal 49 Rotterdam) is staying in the Dominican Republic until 3 August. And they didn't tell me or send me an app about it, no, I read it on Twitter. Just like the rest of the world. You know, the open nature of the internet.

Anonymous accounts with keywords
I would first create a number of anonymous accounts on the regular social media channels. Then I would set up a number of standard searches via Twitter in my dashboard based on a number of keywords. I would start with 'Schiphol', 'airport', 'on holiday', sometimes in combination with the term Foursquare or 4SQ. The messages with the text 'from my hotel room', 'Spanish sun', 'beautiful surroundings' and 'been on an excursion' get a separate tab, so I know for sure that they are already on holiday.
