Pagination as part of search engine optimization

You have to decide for your platform how you want to handle all of this content. With the retirement of rel=prev and rel=next, there are only two practical methods that can be used.
Method 1: You do nothing
As the title of this method suggests, you simply do nothing and leave the selection of the individual component pages to the search engine.
Method 2: Provide an overview page with all content
With this method, you create a single page with all the content of the category. All pagination pages must then have a canonical pointing to the overall overview. Pagination in WordPress with WP-Paginate

After installation and activation, you have various configuration options available. In addition to the pagination label, you can also specify the values for the previous and next page. You can select where the pagination should appear:
On all sides
Only on the homepage
On the blog
On the search results page
On category pages
On archive pages
Various designs can also be customized, as can the position of the pagination. Another highlight is the ability to implement custom CSS instructions directly within the plugin. However, I recommend storing these instructions directly in the CSS file. Updates often cause the custom CSS instructions to be deleted. All of this content is available in the free version. There is also a pro version of this plugin, which, apart from additional layout and color adjustments, is identical to the free version without CSS. You can safely save the €19 for the pro version.
