What are work shifts?

Shift: morning, afternoon and night
Morning shift : This is the most traditional shift, starting in the morning and ending in the early afternoon. Workers usually start their workday around 7 or 8 am and finish around 4 or 5 pm.
Evening shift : Starts in the late morning or early afternoon and extends until late afternoon or early evening. Workers may start around 1 or 2 pm and finish around 10 or 11 pm.
Night shift : Starts at night and ends in the morning. Workers usually start around 10 or 11 pm and finish around 6 or 7 am the next morning.
Alternate shift or 12-hour shift
Some industries, such as hospitals, factories, and emergency services, employ staggered shifts or 12-hour shifts , in which workers work longer shifts, usually 12 hours, and have alternating days off. This format may involve alternating day and night shifts.
