Point three: categorize! The media are not decision-makers here. the topic of carnival. Their role and their central tasks are classic: inform, categorize (what is the background, what connections are there?), if necessary, offer a position, a commentary: one commentator may explain why he thinks war and carnival do not go well together, another japan rcs data commentator may explain why she thinks both can go hand in hand and why it can be good for people to distance themselves from their worries and fears by celebrating. A war in Europe is a topic for reporting, and so is carnival. For example, if a float were to deal with the conflict in Ukraine and confront people with a corresponding punch line, then this could be another reason for reporting that even links the two topics.
Going out to celebrate now is a matter of conscience, but in my opinion this is no reason to feel guilty. What is crucial is that we are also interested in what is happening in Ukraine and can rely on serious and solid journalistic assessments. This is particularly important when reporting on war, where propaganda on all sides is shifting the perspective.
