At Aufgesang, we have developed our own manual process for identifying search intent since 2011, which I would like to discuss in more detail below.
Unfortunately, this procedure can currently only be carried out manually, as the purpose of a ranking landing page cannot always be determined solely by the classification of the domain or publisher. But a closer look at the content on the landing pages often makes sense.
For example, hornbach.de is a shop, but offers a lot of useful tutorials on craft topics, which can be easily found using the relevant terms. You should therefore look at the content and its purpose on the ranking target pages.
The first page then gives you an impression of which documents/content are ranking, what the ads look like and which universal search elements are displayed.
To do this , enter the search term you want to examine into Google in a largely "clean" browser (i.e. not logged into Google and with the web protocol deactivated). You can also deactivate the browser's geolocation . The cleanest version of the Google ranking is achieved by using Google search partners such as t-online search or web.de search . However, this may not display any knowledge graph boxes or shopping ads that help with faster keyword analysis. For this reason, it is better to carry out the keyword analysis in the Google environment to identify informational transactional or commercial keywords. For regional keywords, however, I recommend using partner searches. More on this below.
