The Workplace Ordinance also describes what a suitable breastfeeding room should look like.

1. If pregnant women or nursing mothers are employed, facilities for lying down, resting and breastfeeding must be available at the workplace or in the immediate vicinity in sufficient number to ensure that they can be used at all times. Privacy must be guaranteed when using them.

2. Facilities for lying down, resting and breastfeeding must be padded and provided with washable or disposable coverings.

The following requirements apply to the room itself:

A size of at least six square meters
background noise of 55 dB
No "operational disruptions"
Visual connection (window) to the outside – here there are equivalent south africa consumer email list mandatory requirements for common rooms from the state building
Healthy room temperature of at least +21 degrees Celsius up to a target temperature of +26 degrees Celsius
Healthy breathing air – for example through ventilation options or technical room ventilation
Ensuring privacy when using the room
In summary, a toilet or a dark (storage) room is not a suitable room and is not a solution that can be offered. These requirements are mandatory and therefore represent a binding requirement for the employer regarding the design of the workplace.

Breastfeeding at adesso
It quickly became clear that only a few rooms in the Dortmund office met these requirements. Open-space workstations and an open room design are unfortunately simply unsuitable for breastfeeding and working. The open conference rooms are great for meetings, but unfortunately not practical for this situation. In addition to the requirements mentioned above, there are of course other needs. For example, it is helpful to have a sink near the room (or even in the room) for cleaning the utensils. It also makes sense to set up a separate breastfeeding office so that the utensils can be stored there. And not just the equipment, but also the breast milk in a separate refrigerator. Constant and discreet cooling is guaranteed and is not influenced by any other employees.
