In October 2022, there are new developments on YouTube. The video platform is updating the YouTube Shorts features, while Twitter is promoting platform sales in partnership with Shopify. Meta is launching a call list feature for WhatsApp and sharing forwarding information on Instagram. Finally, TikTok is launching multi-participant live broadcasts.
Key points
What TikTok and Instagram reels have been able to do for a long time: adding voiceover to videos is now possible with YouTube Shorts.
E-commerce features continue to gain momentum on social media, with Twitter now following suit with the Shopify extension.
WhatsApp is mimicking Zoom and Teams in that you can now share links for video calls, and Instagram allows you to repost posts and reels.
Accounts with more than 5,000 followers can now invite up to five guests to their live broadcasts.
What's new on YouTube in October 2022: video and voice response in YouTube Shorts
Short videos can now be found on all platforms besides TikTok, with Meta, TikTok and Youtube competing for users. Read about the question of who is winning the short video race on the Kolsquare blog.
In July 2021, YouTube first launched its version of short videos, called YouTube Shorts , which is now available in 100 countries around the world and viewed over 6.5 billion times a day. In October 2022, YouTube launched a new option to enhance Shorts, as creators can now add a voiceover.
As YouTube explains: “Add another layer of creative expression to your Shorts by narrating what’s happening in your content (e.g. instructions, explanations, reactions, funny comments, or even adding your own new sounds and more).”
For creators, this isn’t an update they aren’t already familiar with from TikTok and Instagram Reels , so it’s not a revolutionary addition from a functional standpoint, but for YouTubers, the feature offers new ways to enhance their own vp engineering email database clips. They definitely shouldn’t forget the power of video marketing , especially since YouTube still has a monopoly when it comes to longer videos, although TikTok also now allows longer videos .
So brands can use YouTube Shorts to increase brandawareness or expand their target audience. Of course, you need to check if Shorts fit into your strategy and if it makes sense for you to boost your presence on the Google-owned platform.
