So what is a Project Manager? Explain it to me in simple words.

Post by hmonower921 »

This is the person who is responsible for ensuring that the project is completed within the agreed scope , time and budget . On a daily basis, he manages a team of people delegated to a given project, coordinates their work, regularly reports the feasibility status to superiors and the client (external or internal), and also informs about the risks and problems in the project. In the latter case, he identifies people who can realistically solve them, and also proposes actions that should be taken. Believe me, this is not an easy task at all. In most cases, the owner of the risk/problem is not happy and tries to convince me that it is someone else, or that the responsibility is shared. This is how it looks from the inside.

The role of the coordinator is extremely important, but often overlooked. The Project Manager performs many tasks that are not visible to everyone on a daily basis. They often work behind the scenes and sometimes participate in political wars. Yes, exactly. Remember that there are various stakeholder groups in the project and in addition to the main goal of project success, they also have others that an effective Project Manager should understand.
Are you being chased by the PM and you get another reminder? I can comfort you that it's not just you. They also talk to your co-workers, external partners and bosses! The latter do not have a special tariff, they also have their own deadlines and tasks, e.g. decision-making.

Okay, so what's the point of all this? Imagine that there are 15 people in the project, and each of them delivers a component that makes up the final product/service. No one plans, no cameroon whatsapp data deadlines, no understanding of the interdependencies of the activities, no flow of information, each person works independently, you don't meet, you don't know who makes the decisions, but you have to deliver the project on time.

Could you operate efficiently and produce a coherent, on-time, budget-compliant product? In my opinion, that would be a huge challenge, but that's where the Project Manager comes in as the orchestra conductor. He has great individual virtuosos, but only under his baton will the music sound.

This is how I see a Project Manager, as a person who plans the team's work, brings the project together and knows the current status of the work.

I hope I managed to convince you that the role of a PM is more than just sending emails. In the following articles I will share my experience in managing projects in the digital and communication areas. If you have associated a project with building a bridge or a housing estate, these posts will be for you.
