The results of a large-scale global survey of consumers, cybersecurity professionals, and senior business executives reveal that Italian consumers have only a marginal level of trust in organizations when it comes to protecting their digital data.
The “Global State of Digital Trust Survey and Index 2018” study conducted by the analysis firm Frost & Sullivan on behalf of CA Technologies also shows that the gap between user trust and the perception that organizations have of it is clearer in Italy than in the rest of Europe.
" This new study highlights the existence of a significant gap in the perception of trust in Italy, and in many other countries, between consumer expectations and the ways in which organizations collect, store, and use digital information, " said Luca Rossetti, Senior Business buy bulk sms service Technology Architect at CA Technologies. " As users increasingly operate online, they provide enormous amounts of personal data to companies, which are therefore faced with the need to process and store a growing amount of sensitive information. If companies fail to take due care to protect user data and prevent it from falling into the wrong hands, trust will be short-lived, with potential negative repercussions on corporate profits ."
Frost & Sullivan developed the Digital Trust Index based on a series of metrics that measure key factors related to digital trust, including consumers' willingness to share their personal data with companies, their belief that companies protect that data, and the extent to which they believe companies sell personal data to other companies.
The score is calculated on a sliding scale, with 1 representing "no trust" and 100 representing "complete trust."
Based on responses from 2018 respondents, Italy's Digital Trust Index is slightly above the German and UK figures, but below the French figure and significantly lower than the US figure. These scores indicate Italian consumers' marginal trust in companies' ability or willingness to fully protect their personal data.
Conversely, the Italian cybersecurity specialists and business executives interviewed showed greater trust, with a 19-point difference in their perception compared to users' responses. This asymmetry between perceived trust and the trust actually felt by consumers is greater than in any other country in the world.
