Social media play an important role in our daily lives. We can no longer live without them and some users seem to spend all their time following and sharing content. These show that 8 platforms are popular: Facebook, Twitter, Pinterest, LinkedIn, Google Plus, YouTube, Tumblr and Instagram. Facebook is still in first place with 1 billion active users per month. This number is as large as the worldwide population in the year 1804. The users are active on the platform: every day they post 800 million status updates, share more than 219 billion photos and give 3.2 billion likes and reactions.

is followed by Google Plus. Google's social platform has over 500 million members. Instagram is popular for sharing photos. More than 40 million photos are shared online via the app every day. Since the start of Instagram, almost 4 billion photos have been posted on the platform. Pinterest is also making its way. On the visual network, more than 11 million users share their photos on their pinboards. More than 80 percent of the users are women.
