Kirkland's
Kirkland’s (a home decor store chain): Instead of just giving out coupons (which is huge in the US), Kirkland’s wanted to really connect with their customers and give them a platform to share ideas and play home decor designer themselves. They now have over 19,000 community members and almost 290,000 fans on Facebook .

Activia
Activia (the health drink); a Slovenian Facebook action. It was an online social challenge in 6 weeks with different steps, an approach that was very successful.

Old Spice
Old spice : a nice follow-up campaign from Old Spice (they are really doing well there!) with a championship battle between 'the old spice guy' and of course the less attractive 'fabio', via social media.

Coca Cola
Coca Cola: a teen community, Coca Cola Village in Israel, also on Facebook, including RFID finland phone number list Ultimate cross-media. But also, as the comments say; perhaps a bit creepy.

Conclusion
I saw many examples of existing initiatives and not so new social media campaigns, tools and ideas. I was hoping for successful applications, new campaigns, strategies, ideas, tools – but then I might have been at the wrong session. In any case, I learned something again – we in the Netherlands are not as far behind as we sometimes think. Recent (social media) cases such as those of KLM , Rituals etc. also made Matt feast. Although we are a smaller country with smaller marketing budgets and sales areas, a lot is possible with a bit of creativity and effort. All in all, we can still make those Americans and Canadians smell a lot of shit!

Matt started his presentation with theory and used the help of other presenters to further flesh out his story , which I will discuss in more detail in a future article.
