Box elder, or American maple
Box elder, or American maple (acer negundo) is a fast-growing, unpretentious tree 10-12 m in height with a wide-spreading crown and compound leaves consisting of 3-5 leaflets. Large decorative inflorescences bloom on the plant before the leaves appear and remain on it for 10-15 days.
Box elder is a light-loving maple, tolerates shade. It is wind-resistant, but can be susceptible to windbreak. It is dust-, smoke- and gas-resistant, easily tolerates an urban environment. It is not demanding to the soil. Varietal forms can freeze in our climate. It easily tolerates over-wetting, alkalization and slight salinization of the soil.
